"Passion isn't a disease"--L'Impératrice's PULSAR gives us freedom in dancing
You’re no maniac, girl!
Passion isn’t a disease
Don’t go down on your knees
L'Impératrice – Pulsar– microqlima – disco, french house, electro-pop
When I think of modern disco, really authentic sounding disco, I think of L’Impératrice. After hearing “Agitations tropicales” (aka me), I was rewarded in 2024 with the release of their albumPulsar. The album starts off with “Cosmogonie”–a mostly instrumental funky track. I find “Me Da Igual” is getting me to the dance floor, but despite the Spanish name and other French bands experiment with all Spanish-albums, “Me Da Igual” is mostly in French, but interceding with “me da igual”--spanish for whatever–in its chorus. Love from the other side is probably the most “romantic” with synths serenading us. Out of all the songs, the one that I always end up playing on repeat is “Danza Marilú” which features artist Fabiana Martone–Naple Artists I will now be obsessed with–because it really is a dancing song, whether you are Marilú or not. “Any Way” Ft. Maggie Rogers while still a beautiful funky tune, it is more somber. “Girl” is the only English song and it’s probably my second favorite–anything with the world girl, come on–but it’s both upbeat and sentimental. “Sweet and Sublime” is probably the most interesting song, and joining a roster of musicians I need to find, this song is a collaboration with Erick the Architech. Pulsar is the perfect song to end this amazing french disco treasure.
